I had a few problems, but they were easily resolved.First, I optimistically turned the "boundary width" knob all the way to max, which resulted in the collars going off while *inside* the house a good fifteen feet away from the boundary wire. But when set at half-strength, the boundary width decreased to about two feet. The scale does not appear to be linear.The included spool of wire seemed small and flimsy, but it was (just) long enough to reach all the way around our house, including large back, side, and front yards. I secured it to the ground using yard staples from a local hardware store. I was worried that it would break where it crosses the driveway, but I tucked it into the existing pavement crack and covered it with silicone. It has so far survived a record snowfall, two weeks of steady rain, and my vehicle tires.I really appreciate the comprehensive training guide included in the manual. Proper training is the most important part of installation.The included "ultralight" receiver-collar is too large, in my opinion, for most cats, and too small for large dogs. It was just right for our 12-pound rat-terrier, but kept coming loose until I used some electrical tape to bind the ends. On our 80-pound shepherd-lab mix, the receiver kept twisting on the narrow collar so that the electric prods no longer made contact with his skin. I made a replacement collar from some tow-strap and now the prods are kept squarely against his neck where they belong. (See picture) In my experience, one size does *not* fit all.For those wondering about the severity of the electric shock delivered by the collars, I tested it on myself first. At maximum strength (5), it feels very much like sticking my thumb into a 110v light socket. At minimum strength (2), I couldn't feel anything at all, until I switched to the other hand. Then I could just *barely* detect a slight tickle. Our rat-terrier responded to level 3, but our large dog needed a level 4. He must have gotten a pretty good jolt when I wasn't watching, because he was reluctant to venture more than three foot away from the house for a couple weeks.I've had both collars turned on for about a month. I expect to see the collars start flashing to indicate low battery soon, but so far they're still good.The best part is, both dogs are now trained to stay in the yard. They both will run right up to the boundary, and then *stop* just short of receiving correction. No more wandering!
